When Your Mind Says “Yes” And Your Body Says “No”!

goal setting health Jun 14, 2019

I turned 45 years old last month and my body acts differently. I noticed it when I became part of the “over 40” category.

Now, I’m not complaining about my age. I celebrate every 45 of those years and I don’t cringe at each birthday when it comes around. I have learned so much in my 45 years and my attitude is that “I’m just getting started!”

Here’s the conundrum though. My mind loves to say “Yes!” yet my body sometimes says “No!”

Have you ever experienced that?

Maybe you are an athlete reading this and you can remember the exact day when you ran down the field, cut to one side, and your mind said you were going to get the ball but your body said “Excuse me, your knee just went the opposite way.” Yea, that ACL tear wasn’t fun.

Or, maybe you are in your 40’s like me and you spend hours cleaning out the garage, weeding, planting flowers, spreading mulch, and thinking about your great accomplishment at the end of the day only to wake up the next morning with your body screaming, “What did you think you were doing? Why did you try to do all of that in 1 day? Seriously?”

Or, maybe you enjoy playing with your grandkids, getting on the floor with them, letting them ride on your back like a horsey, showing them how to conquer their fears and slide down the “big kid” slide at the playground only to watch them leave with their parents at the end of the day and leave you with back pain where you can barely stand up straight. Your back shouts, “Who do you think you are? You are not 4 years old!”

Does any of this sound familiar?

Here’s the thing. You cannot stop the aging process.

But… and this is a big BUT....

You can trick your body a little bit.

Just because it is inevitable that you will age year after year doesn’t mean that your health can’t be your best health ever.

That’s right. You can achieve your best health. You just need to be S.M.A.R.T.

I am talking about setting health goals that are:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Realistic
  • Timely

In the next several blogs, I am going to share insights on reaching your best health by being S.M.A.R.T.

When you are S.M.A.R.T., you can learn how to reach your best health ever!
